Understanding the Bill

S.2352 -An Act relative to the practice of acupuncture

This bill will represent a major milestone for the profession of Acupuncture in Massachusetts. By mandating insurance coverage for acupuncture, the people of the Commonwealth will have a choice when it comes to the management of pain, PTSD, nausea and substance abuse, other than opioid pain medication.

Broader reimbursement for acupuncture will also create more jobs and referrals for acupuncturists. Hospitals will be able to expand their acupuncture programs which currently are primarily funded by grants and private philanthropy. When those grants and donations are used up, those programs end, leaving patients who absolutely cannot afford to pay for acupuncture without access to care. The passage of this bill will place acupuncture squarely in its rightful place alongside mainstream allopathic medicine and allow patients in Massachusetts to have access to truly integrative health care.

You, as a practitioner, can choose whether or not to accept insurance in your practice. Let's give our patients a choice too.
